What to Expect
A fantastic set of roads through the North of England and through Scotland. We will see coastal routes, The Bealach na ba (pass of the cattle) near Applecross, all that Scotland has to offer – mountains, lochs and Glenns.
Days are conservative in overall miles terms to ensure there is plenty of time to stop, look around, take in the atmospheric scenery and recharge with coffee and cake. The riding is fantastic – one for the purest, but with enough time for pillions to take in the view and stretch their legs on a regular basis.
7 Nights Accommodation
Hotels – with mainly a B&B basis. Three hotels will be half board. Hotels in either central locations for evenings in town, or in splendid locations – or just a bit classy. An excellent rest and great hospitality await.

Flexibility is the key to this ride as our routes may have to deviate due to local weather conditions or road closures, but don’t worry, we do our best to know this before we leave the comfort of our hotel!
Day 1
A fantastic days’ ride from the Lake District, across the Kirkstone and Hartside passes before moving into the wonderful Scottish borders on our way to Moffat. A lovely blend of flowing A roads and quiet B roads to ease our way into the touring mindset.
Day 2
From Moffat we head North West to pick up the ferry to Dunoon, taking in the fantastic sights of Dumfries and Galloway on the way. A second ferry to Tarbert allows us to begin the wonderful ride North through the ancient Glenn of Kilmartin with its Standing Stones before hugging the coast where we can and enjoying the scenic ride to Oban. We then make our way to our hotel north of Oban overlooking the water at Ardmucknish bay
Day 3
And now we really start to explore the highlands. North to Fort William and onto the wonderful A87. We would always recommend a stop at the Commando Memorial to wonder at the hardiness of those soldiers. The location and memorial are stunning and a great place for a photo stop, or a time of quiet reflection.
Thereafter we head on past the wonderful Eilean Donan castle and then up and over the Bealach Na Ba (The Applecross Pass) with its hairpins and stunning views and then sticking with the NC500 route all the way to a warm welcome in Gairloch.
Day 4
From Gairloch we stick with the NC500 before turning Eastward inland at Ledmore to enjoy a beautiful ride across the Scottish countryside to a fantastic night’s stay in Conan Bridge.
Day 5
A classic day across the Cairngorms. Some lovely roads, fantastic views and opportunity to ride through the Speyside whisky regions (with a stop in Dufftown for some shopping – if you know, you know). This is a special day on the bike, and in our view worth the trip all on its own. We finish the day at the wonderful Meikleour Arms in Blairgowrie. The ride, the views and the hotel will not disappoint.
Day 6
A chance for something a little different today – do not worry there are still the expected fantastic roads but also the chance to see the Kelpies and the Falkirk Wheel. An art installation and marvel of engineering respectively that give a lovely break in the day to marvel at ingenuity and creativity.
The morning and afternoon ride to get us there is a great chance to enjoy more rural and gently rolling scottish countryside. There is a short motorway stretch which prevents some urban crawling (so well worth it).
Day 7
A somewhat shorter day today, but one that gives us the opportunity to explore the border country, Kielder Forest Park and the wonderful countryside and quiet back roads on our way to Barnard Castle.
Day 8
As we are in the area a final days’ ride across the Yorkshire Dales – taking in Buttertubs pass, Ribblehead Viaduct and many, many bends. This is fantastic, occasionally technical riding that will leave you grinning at the end of a fabulous tour that has given us such a wide range of roads, views, landscapes and memories. We end with a night near Harrogate before heading our separate ways after breakfast.
