September is one of the best months to ride this route. You get long daylight hours, warm but not oppressive temperatures, predictable mountain conditions, and lively towns without peak‑season crowds. This is a 12-day trip, including the return Eurotunnel crossing, with every day solid riding in stunning scenery!

Ride from the Channel to the heart of the Alps on one of Europe’s most spectacular motorcycle journeys. September gives you long days, warm weather, open mountain passes and the perfect balance of adventure and comfort — exactly what Tip Top riders love.

Starting in Calais, we sweep through France’s quiet countryside to Verdun, easing into the rhythm of European touring. From there, the roads open beautifully: the Black Forest into Baden‑Baden, Bavarian curves into Kempten, and then the big moment — the dramatic arrival into the Dolomites.

Four nights in Campitello di Fassa put you right in the centre of world‑class riding. Sella, Pordoi, Gardena, Fedaia — iconic passes in every direction, with crisp air, huge views and perfect June conditions. It’s pure motorcycling joy.

The return journey is just as rewarding: Alpine scenery through Garmisch, relaxed Bavarian roads to Augsburg, vineyard‑lined riding into Colmar, and the peaceful forests of Saint‑Hubert before rolling back to the Eurotunnel with that unbeatable “we really did it” feeling.

What to Expect

Some of the days are long both in terms of
mileage and riding time so you will need to be sure
of your riding stamina. The roads in the mountains
are twisty but overall mileage is less. This is a riding
holiday, so time spent in stopovers is quite minimal.
We probably won’t get chance to visit cathedrals
or do walking tours.

It’s your holiday, so please ride at a pace that suits you. If you want to go off on your own, then please do so. Or, if you want to stay in a group, then again, do so – it’s always your choice.

ITinerary

Day 1

Folkestone – Calais – Verdun

Depart Folkestone on the Euro tunnel and arrive in Calais 35 minutes later. We then ride down to our first night stop in Verdun. A rewarding first day that feels like a real ride across northern France rather than a motorway slog. Avoiding autoroutes turns this leg into a scenic, varied introduction to the tour.

Day 2

Verdun – Baden Baden

A brilliant eastbound run across France into Germany. The terrain gradually shifts from open farmland to the wooded foothills of the Black Forest. The final approach into Baden‑Baden is smooth, sweeping and elegant — a classy spa town that feels like a reward at the end of the dayany.

Day 3

Black Forset – Kempten

This is Black Forest riding at its best: rolling curves, dense woodland, and beautifully surfaced roads. As you push further south, the scenery opens into Bavarian countryside with Alpine hints. Kempten delivers that first proper taste of the Alps — crisp air, mountain silhouettes, and relaxed Bavarian charm.

Day 4

Timmelsjoch

A spectacular Alpine crossing. The Timmelsjoch Pass no less! Expect high passes, long climbs, tight hairpins, and jaw‑dropping views. Once you enter the Dolomites, the rock formations and dramatic valleys make every mile feel cinematic. Campitello di Fassa is a perfect base — surrounded by iconic passes like Sella, Pordoi, and Gardena.

DayS 5-7

Your Choice! REST DAY? OR STELVIO PASS?

Three days here is a gift. Riders can loop multiple world‑class passes in a single day, each offering a different flavour: fast sweepers, tight technical switchbacks, balcony roads, and huge panoramas. Coffee stops in mountain huts, crisp air, and endless photo opportunities. It’s pure motorcycling heaven. Or a day off to explore on foot, taking a cable car up to the top of the mountain to marvel at the marvellous Dolomites!

Day 8

Campitello di Fassa – Garmisch

A stunning northbound run back through Alpine terrain. Expect a mix of fast valley roads and scenic climbs. Garmisch is a classic motorcycling town — Zugspitze views, lively cafés, and a proper Alpine atmosphere. A great place to unwind after Dolomite intensity.

Day 9

Garmisch – AugsburG

A gentler day with flowing Bavarian countryside, tidy villages, and easy riding. Augsburg is one of Germany’s oldest cities, offering a relaxed historic centre and plenty of places to eat and wander after a steady day in the saddle.

Day 10

Augsburg – Colmar

A long but rewarding cross‑country ride back into France. The scenery shifts from Bavarian farmland to the colourful, vineyard‑lined landscapes of Alsace. Colmar is always a hit with riders — half‑timbered houses, great food, and a warm evening atmosphere.

Day 11

Colmar – Saint-Hubert

A smooth north‑westerly run through Alsace and Luxembourg into the Ardennes. Expect forests, quiet rural roads, and gentle elevation changes. Saint‑Hubert is peaceful, green, and ideal for a final night before heading back towards the Channel.

Day 12

SainT-Hubert – Calais

A smooth, purposeful final day that feels like a proper run home. Leaving Saint‑Hubert, the route flows through the quiet forests and rolling countryside of the Ardennes before opening into faster, wider roads across Belgium. As you cross into France, the landscape becomes flatter and more expansive, making progress easy and predictable.
Expect a mix of rural N‑roads, dual carriageways, and efficient motorway sections designed to keep the day steady rather than technical. Fuel stops and service areas are frequent, giving riders plenty of chances to rest, regroup, and prepare for the Channel crossing.
The final approach into Calais is straightforward, well‑signed, and rider‑friendly. Arriving at the Eurotunnel terminal brings that familiar end‑of‑tour feeling — bikes lined up, riders swapping stories, and the satisfaction of completing a full European loop with confidence
